Environmental Readings

The Environmental Readings page is the log of conditions (temperature, humidity, pressure) at each Storage Location. Every reading is compared automatically with the location's limits and marked "In spec" or "Excursion" (ISO/IEC 17025 §6.3.3, §6.3.4). The page is the evidence that the laboratory monitors conditions rather than merely noting them.

In spec / excursion

The verdict is computed on save from the location's limits: each measured value is checked only against the limits the location has — an empty limit means "unbounded on that side". A reading is an "Excursion" if any one value falls outside its range. The "Excursions only" filter shows just those.

What to do on an excursion

  1. Record what was observed in Excursion notes.
  2. From the row's action menu open Impacted aliquots (§6.3.1) — double-click opens the sample. The list shows the aliquots that were in the location at the moment of the reading: they already existed then, had not yet been disposed of, and that was where they stood.

The location is resolved from the change history, not from where the aliquot sits today. So an aliquot moved out after the excursion still appears, and one moved in after it does not.

⚠️ If the laboratory's database keeps no change history, the dialog says so and the list falls back to current locations — cross-check the movements by hand in that case.

  1. If the excursion may affect results, open a Deviation (Nonconforming work) and link it in the reading's field, so an assessor can go from the reading straight to the impact assessment and actions (§7.10).

Monitoring cadence

How often each location must be logged is set on the location itself, in "Monitoring interval (hours)". Locations without a recent reading count towards the Locations with no recent reading alert on the Dashboard. See: Storage Locations.

  • A reading never changes the location's limits; correct limits on the Storage Locations page.
  • Do not delete a reading that is linked to a Deviation — it is the evidence of the excursion.
