A Legal Hold freezes records so they cannot be disposed of, however long their retention period has expired (ISO/IEC 17025 §4.2.2, §8.4). It is used when a court or regulator requires it, and it also carries the evidence that the customer was told about a lawful disclosure.

Clicking the icon on each row shows:
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Scope / Purpose | What the hold covers — required; locked after creation |
| Record Type | Which type is held; not asked for on a global hold |
| Record ID | The specific record, when the scope is a single record |
| From / To Date | The window, when the scope is a date range — both required |
| Reason | Why the hold is placed — always required |
| Authority | Who imposed it, for example a court or a regulator |
| Expected Release | When it is expected to be lifted |
| Notified On · Notification Method · Notification Notes | The §4.2.2 evidence: when and how the customer was told |
| Scope | What it holds |
|---|---|
| Single Record | One specific record |
| Date Range | Every record of the type falling in the window |
| All of Type | Every record of the type |
| Global | Every record, whatever its type |
Releasing is done from the row action menu and asks for a Release Reason and an explicit confirmation. The confirmation exists because releasing returns the records to the normal disposition flow: on the next cycle they become candidates for destruction or archival again.
