Reagent Lots

The Reagent Lots screen tracks the physical lots of your reagents: lot numbers, expiry dates, and stock levels (ISO/IEC 17025 §6.4). It is the dashboard for consumable expiry and availability.

Which expiry date counts (§6.6)

An opened lot is judged on its in-use expiry, not the certificate's: the earlier of the two, that is either the certificate date or the opening date plus the Stability after opening set on the reagent.

That date governs all three of:

  • The lot's status in the table.
  • The status filters — "Expired" means the in-use expiry has passed, "Expires Soon" means within 30 days, "Active" means more than 30 days away and in stock.
  • The expiry notifications that reach the staff.

A lot with no expiry date is never counted as expired, and a lot at zero stock but with a live date shows as Depleted rather than expired.

If this is missing

  • A lot's real expiry is the earlier of two dates: the manufacturer's expiry and

opened date + the reagent's shelf life after opening.

  • 🔴 If the opened date is left blank, the second term is never computed. A lot opened months ago

reads as valid until the manufacturer's date — the exact opposite of what §6.6 asks.

  • If the reagent defines no shelf life after opening, the same applies: the opened date is

recorded but constrains nothing.

  • With no certificate on a reference material, the control sample loses its traceability.

Notes

  • The table opens with the Needs Attention filter: lots that are expired or expire within 30 days, measured on the in-use expiry. Filters by status are also available.
  • Lots are created from the reagent's page. Double-clicking a lot opens the reagent it belongs to.
  • Each lot's status is worked out automatically; you do not set it.
